I love your writing, Jo. Today I plodded through my day, because today was just one of those days. Reading about your day, the fish, the customers, the books and the beach, lightened my mood. Thank you for being delightful.
Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton was one of the best books I have ever read. More than just a memoir, it's transformative. I highly recommend it to everyone.
No I am not related to JB. That is my husband's name and he claims no association with him. But I suspect there could be a long distance connection as Keane is a popular name in North Kerry. My aunt lives near Sale. Has lived in Australia for a long time and was a teacher up to retirement last year. She pops over to Ireland every summer so she will be landing here soon. I have only been to Eastern Australia and not visited her yet.
Sounds like a busy week Jo. Isn't it great to live near a beach. Raising Hare has become very popular. Great to see Irish writers are in demand. Niall Williams won the Kerry Book Award at Listowel Literary Festival at the weekend. We had a lovely celebration with him. He so deserved it. I spoke to him briefly and he told me about his Australian book tour some months back. He met my aunt in the library in Melbourne. Small world. I posted a photo of him on Substack a few days ago at the awards ceremony.
Are you related to John B Keane, Lucy? And I'm so glad Niall won the award - but I wouldn't have liked to have been on the judging panel with that shortlist! Does your aunt live in Melbourne?

Gave it to my aunt for Christmas. She loved it.
